Picture of student using a small magnifying glass to search for sounds
First graders in Mrs. Neal's class became super secret agents and were assigned a mission to uncover the beginning sounds of words posted around the room.  All secret agents successfully completed their mission while practicing their sounds too.

Traveling the World - Holiday Traditions

In each of the countries we have visited in our holidays around the world, one thing has remained a tradition in each- decorating a Christmas Tree.  Students decorated their own edible tree then ate their creation.  They were joined by our classroom's community liaison the Fairfield County Sheriff's department, Sgt. Burke and Sgt. Cassell.   Click MORE+ to see photos of our travels.

Traveling the World - Stop Three

Our third stop in our travels took us to the Netherlands.  Here students learned about Sinterklaas.  The tradition here has kids leaving wooden shoes out in the hopes that Sinterklaus will ride in on his white horse and leave goodies in their shoes.  Our class was so lucky to have him visit overnight as well and leave a few treats behind.

Traveling the World - Stop Two

Mrs. Neal's second stop around the world took us to England.  Here the students learned that England was the first country to start sending Christmas cards.  Students wrote special cards for a nursing home to brighten their holidays.  Finally, they were surprised to find out that the children write letters to Father Christmas and toss the letters in the fire so the wishes go up in smoke.  We couldn't recreate that but instead we wrote a question to Santa and we anxiously await his response.

Traveling the World - Stop One

Mrs. Neal's first graders are traveling around the world learning about holidays.  Our first stop was in Germany where students learned about an advent calendar by having a digital one to open daily.  We also learned they take pride in their gingerbread houses.  So we transformed our door into a gingerbread village.  Stay tuned for our next stop.

Fairfield County Sheriff Deputies visit Bremen Elementary

Sgt. Cassel and Sgt. Burke stopped by Mrs. Neal's first grade to help the kids with their non-fiction writing on community helpers.  The officers discussed how they keep us safe and all the ways they protect our community.   They also took some time to read a few great books with the kids. Our class is thrilled to be community partners with the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department again this year.
