Meet Our Counselors

Cathy Poston - Junior and Senior Counselor

I am a native of Logan, Ohio, currently residing in Lancaster, and a proud member of the Fairfield Union family since 2013. I graduated from The University of Toledo with a degree in English Literature and later earned a degree in Secondary Education English from Ohio University. My passion for education led to a Master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of Dayton.

Before transitioning into the role of a school counselor, I taught English for 13 years. My extensive experience in education has equipped me with the skills to guide and support students as they work towards their academic, career, college, and social/emotional goals. It is especially rewarding to help students reach the finish line and prepare for life after high school.

I have extensive experience with College Credit Plus and am dedicated to helping students explore all opportunities available to them. Outside of my professional life, I am married to fellow educator Steve Poston and together we have two children, Reese and Riley. The Poston family enjoys traveling, attending concerts, and sports, with a special love for baseball and softball. Cathy is also a devoted dog mom to three dogs.

Erin Ramsey-Freshman, Sophomore, and Career Center Counselor

I am a native of Sugar Grove, Ohio, currently living five miles away from my childhood home. I graduated from Berne Union High School in 1996. I then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Ohio University in 2000. With this degree I have provided drug and alcohol counseling in an agency, as well as working in schools as an educator and mentor.  My work as a Drug Prevention Specialist in schools led me to desire working more closely with students.  I determined that School Counseling was a good fit for my skill set, which led me to obtain a Master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of Dayton in 2013.  I have been a proud full-time member of Fairfield Union’s Falcon Family since 2017.

I have worked in the drug and alcohol field for 20 years. My experience in working with people, especially during hard times in their lives, has given me the experience and skill building to support students not only socially and emotionally but also through their planning of academic and career/college goals. My work with students in their first years of high school gives me an overwhelming pride when I see them walk across the graduation stage, knowing I was there for them from the start.

Outside of my professional life, I am married to my college sweetheart, John Ramsey, and together we have two children, Heather and Samantha. Our family enjoys traveling to Disney World (and anywhere with rollercoasters), watching movies, spending time outside on our property, and celebrating any occasion with our extended family.  I am also a devoted furbaby mom to three cats and one dog (if I had my say, it would be the other way around).  I also enjoy my small hobby fish tank of African Cichlids.

Brian Funk, Rushville Middle School Counselor

Born and raised in the Falcon community, I am a 1993 graduate of the Fairfield Union Local School District. After high school, I pursued my teaching license at Ohio University majoring in Health Education. My first position in education was that of a tutor at Fairfield Union in 1998. Shortly after earning my bachelor degree, I enrolled in Ohio University’s School Counseling program. Since completing the school counseling program in 2000, I have spent the past 24 years as a school counselor, serving three school districts, working with elementary, middle and high school students. I am currently in my 17th year at Fairfield Union and a member of the Ohio School Counselor Association. While serving as a middle school counselor, I have earned my administrative license through Ohio University (2016).

School counselors work to promote the success of all students (i.e. personal, social, emotional, academic & career development). I love the middle school aged student; there is never a dull moment. Students tirelessly navigate their way through life while discovering many unique opportunities that surprise adolescence. Some opportunities are welcoming while others are a bit more challenging. I enjoy supporting all our students regardless of how the situation presents itself.

I live with my family of four in the Fairfield Union community. My faith, my family and my work keeps me grounded. I enjoy the outdoors, Disney adventures, time with my family, trying new foods and serving others.

Tessa Gossett, Rushville Middle School Counselor

I joined the Rushville Middle School Counseling Team in January 2024. I am honored to serve the students and families at Fairfield Union. Prior to my time here, I was an elementary school counselor in Pickerington, Ohio. In addition to my school counseling experiences, I also worked as a registered dietitian for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program in several communities of West Virginia as well as Columbus, Ohio. It is my time spent providing nutrition counseling to children and families as well as collaborating with community agencies that lead me to the field of education and to become a school counselor. I believe that supporting and advocating for students in school is critical in helping them to achieve their best in school and in their personal lives.

I completed my undergraduate studies in Medical Dietetics at The Ohio State University in 2006 and my graduate degree in School Counseling at The University of Dayton in 2010. I am passionate about working with children and their families. It is my goal to support all students and to reduce any barriers to learning. I believe that supporting students with their social-emotional and learning needs is critical in helping guide them to success now as well as in the future.

In addition to my professional and educational experiences, I also spent time as a stay-at-home mom with my son, Ty. I am originally from Chesapeake, Ohio, and have lived in central Ohio since 2007. I currently reside in Pickerington with my husband, Aaron, our son, Ty, and dog, ‘Teddy’. I spend most of my free time with my son, husband, extended family, and friends. I love to spend time outside gardening, jogging, walking, playing with my son, or just enjoying nature. I also enjoy baking, traveling, and exploring new places.
