Title I Schoolwide Program Information

Fairfield Union believes every child should have the opportunity to attain his/her full potential. We are committed to providing a quality educational program for all children. We believe that teamwork and collaboration between school and parents increases the quality and effectiveness of educating every child. We value our parents input and believe that a partnership between school and home is critical to provide the support children need to be successful.

What is Title I?

Title I is a national program funded through the federal government. Bremen Elementary, Pleasantville Elementary and Rushville Middle School are School-wide Title 1 schools. As a Schoolwide Title 1 School, we are able to receive additional training, resources, and staffing to benefit all reading and math groups - from below to above grade level. Having schoolwide status helps us to assist all of our students and enhance our reading and math program as a whole. This means any student, who could benefit from additional help using Title 1 resources, whether for a two-week skill group or a year-long remediation plan, will receive the help needed.

How is the Title I Program funded?

Funding for our program is based on the percentage of free and reduced lunches. Free and reduced lunch numbers can be direct certified for families that participate in SNAP (Special Nutrition Assistance Program) or OWF (Ohio Works First) program. Families that do not participate in these programs can apply through a paper application that is sent home with students each year.

Title I Students and Parent Involvement

Who are Title I students?

Through the Title 1 Schoolwide Program, our schools are better able to address the needs of all students, particularly those students who are struggling with reading and math. Children who score below grade level on state and district assessments in reading or math and are referred by the classroom teacher qualify to receive Title I services. Once these students are identified, the students are instructed in a variety of ways - small group instruction, in-class intervention, one-on-one, in various areas of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing) and math (computation, fluency, problem solving) according to their needs and strengths. Instruction is delivered by teachers and other staff who meet the highly qualified requirements set by No Child Left Behind. All staff members in the position of delivering instruction to our students are highly qualified. Progress is closely monitored with staff members meeting regularly to review and discuss collected data. This ensures that the instruction planned is meeting the needs of the child and promoting his/her academic success.

Parent Involvement

Parent involvement is an important component of the Title I program. There are many ways in which parents and the school can work together to support their children as they work towards becoming better readers. At Fairfield Union, we help parents and children develop successful reading and math habits both in school and at home. Parents have a right to be involved in the planning of their child’s education. We encourage parents to be involved in these plans through volunteering in the classroom or programs, accessing resources and materials offered by staff, attending parent-teacher conferences, and attending family events planned throughout the school year. Parents' Right to Know

As a Title I school, we must meet federal rules related to teacher qualifications as defined in Every Student Succeeds Act [Section 1112 (e) ESSA]. State-Mandated Assessments

The Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that any school district receiving Title 1 funds must notify parents that they may request information regarding student participation in state-mandated assessments. As a recipient of Title 1 funds, Fairfield Union Local Schools will provide you with this information in a timely manner if you request it.

Title I - School-Parent Compact

Fairfield Union Schoolwide Title 1 buildings (Bremen Elementary, Pleasantville Elementary and Rushville Middle School) and the parents of students participating in activities, services and programs funded by Title 1, Part A, of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire district/school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high academic standards.
